Americans in Wartime Experience

Educate. Honor. Inspire.

THE BIG PICTURE

The Americans in Wartime Experience (AWE) is dedicated to honoring and telling the stories of all who served our nation—often at great personal cost—during times of conflict.

This educational and historical project will be highlighted by the property being developed in Prince William County, Virginia, and by the Voices of Freedom project. It will focus on on American conflicts since and including World War I. The goal is to educate visitors—and especially school-aged0 young people—by preserving and creatively re-telling individual stories of personal experience, realities of war, and sacrifices made by Americans of all walks of life during these difficult moments in our history.

Visitors will enjoy learning in an innovative and dynamic interactive environment. Unlike a more traditional museum that is often contained in one building and made up of exhibits and displays, much the AWE will be outdoors and will be experienced on a large scale.

Whether you are a student, teacher, veteran, parent, history buff, or anyone else who is interested in our history, AWE will inspire visitors in a variety of ways. There will truly be something for everyone. The outdoor Live Experience, which will be made up of what we are calling our Landscapes of War, will fascinate visitors of all ages. Students will be drawn to the unparalleled collection of more than 100+ military vehicles. For those who are mecahanically inclined, the shop where the military vehicles are restored and repaired will be open to all. Visitors will also be able to watch reenactments, participate in special age-appropriate programs, and explore a variety of artifacts and exhibits in the Visitor's Center. Veterans will find numerous opportunities to volunteer and to interact with each other both on normal days and during special events.
The Americans in Wartime Experience explores the impact of war and conflict on America since WWI. It honors those who served in the military and on the home front and highlights the values they demonstrated in serving – duty, honor, and courage. It examines how periods of conflict have profoundly shaped American society. It educates visitors about the costs of war, both on a personal and social level. It challenges visitors to remember the service and sacrifices made by their fellow citizens to preserve and defend our freedoms. LEARN MORE
