Seven years ago, the Voices of Freedom went mobile with the purchase of a 36 foot RV that was turned into a recording studio and mobile museum. Since then, hundreds of stories of Americans in wartime have been captured and preserved. Like all good things, the RV has gotten a little long in the tooth and was in need of some work. We decided to go in a slightly different direction, and were fortunate to have the support of a generous donor, the Landeau Foundation.
In March we purchased a toy hauler which will be towed behind a truck we purchased in February. A wrap was designed that showcases some tanks in our collection and veterans and civilians we have interviewed, along with others who have a connection to the project. The design and wrap were done by Scott Lewczak over at Signfarm in Nokesville. In addition to the wrap, the inside of the toy hauler was turned into a recording studio.
On June 4-6, we will be at the World War II Weekend in Reading, PA where the new recording studio will make its debut. Just like the previous RV, the new mobile studio will be an invaluable tool that will enable the Voices of Freedom to continue to travel the country capturing stories of sacrifice and courage. These stories are all too often never told. The Voices of Freedom wants to make sure that those who sacrificed so much are never forgotten, and that the lessons learned through times of great turmoil can be passed on to future generations.
We want to thank the Landeau Foundation for their continued support of the Voices of Freedom, and their commitment to veterans and their families. Their generous donation was used to purchase the truck and toy hauler. It sounds cliché to state this, but without their continued support, we could not do what we do. Thank you!
A big thank you also goes out to Scott and his team at Signfarm. The wrap design turned out amazing! Pictures don’t do it justice.
If you are a wartime veteran or served on the home front during a time of war, we want to hear your story. More importantly, your family wants to hear your story, especially family members who haven’t been born yet. If you are an organization that would like us to bring the mobile recording studio to you, we’d like to hear from you as well.
