Americans in Wartime Experience

Anna Wohlhueter

World War II

Anna Wohlhueter and he family lived in the Philippines when on December 8, 1941, just hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan invaded. The Japanese would occupy and control the island for three years. Thousands of American and Allied civilians living in the Philippines were interned in camps under harsh conditions. Anna and her family were among them.

In the mid-1960’s, Anna was commissioned in the United States Air Force where she served her country for 4 years rising to the rank of captain. She continued to serve after leaving active duty as the spouse of an Air Force officer, and later as the mother of an Army soldier.
